Since its foundation in 1951, Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe has grown into a world-class circus and acrobatic troupe of high reputation with its well-trained cast of super talents plus its full range of programs. What makes the troupe proud is that it has won numerous top awards both in national and international circus competitions such as China National Acrobatic Competition, Festival Mondial du Cirque Demain in Paris and the International Circus Festival in Monte Carlo. Moreover, it has enjoyed popularity over the past years when making more than 100 tours in U.S.A., Canada, Germany, Spain, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, etc.
Huangpu River Sensation, a production with strong Shanghai features, was presented by Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe in 2005 at Shanghai Center Theater. The program consists of 3 parts --“Autumn Day”, “Moon Reflection” and “Rosy Clouds” – showing the vicissitudes of Shanghai: “Grand Feast” and “Lovers at the Bund” tell the story of yesterday; “Juggler in the Bar” reflects the charm of today: “Hoop Diving” and “Magic Illusion” predict the development of tomorrow. Some acts such as “Play Dooly”, “Silk Stripes” and “Pyramid of Chairs” are the “Gold Lin Award” winners at China National Acrobatic Competitions.
